If you’ve ever looked at a gardening magazine and thought, “Theres no way that’s real,” welcome. You’re in the right place.
I have a large garden…that is currently losing the battle against the weeds. Every spring I’m convinced this is going to be the year I grow all of our vegetables. Every summer life reminds me that gardens don’t care how good your intentions are.
We also have a small orchard with apples, peaches, pears, cherries, and nectarines. It gives us some fruit every year, but with a little more pruning, attention, and TLC, it could produce so much more. It’s another one of those projects that’s full of potential.
Then there’s the greenhouse-one we built ourselves and were so proud of. At the moment, its patiently waiting for a new plastic covering before it can get back to doing its job.
This year, I kept things simple. I planted a handful of tomatoes and peppers and decided to outsource the rest of our fruits and vegetables from local farms and markets. Sometimes the smartest homesteading decision is admitting you can’t do everything at once.
My goal isn’t perfection. It’s learning a little more every year, growing a little more every year, and hopefully staying one step ahead of the weeds…someday.
If you’ve ever had a garden that looked better in your head than it did in real life, you’ll fit right in here. Follow along and maybe we’ll both figure this gardening thing out together.
